Germany develops anti-electromagnetic wave textiles

Scientists from the Hohenstein Institute in Germany and experts from the German Institute of Textile Technology and Chemical Fibers (ITCF) have developed textiles that are both resistant to electromagnetic radiation and infrared radiation.

The chemical fibers that make up the textile are covered with indium tin oxide (ITO), a transparent oxide composite that is used in smart phone touch screens. The Hohenstein Institute's experiments show that the textile is resistant to washing, abrasion and weathering, and it does not harm the environment and the human body.

According to the Hohenstein Institute, as of now, functional textiles only have the function of intercepting electronic smoke emitted by electronic devices, or blocking heat radiation caused by fire or dense solar radiation. Dr. Edith Classen, the project leader, said: "This new type of textile can not only effectively shield the radiation but also prevent static electricity. It is an ideal personal protective equipment choice for firefighting, foundry and welding shop, semiconductor industry, and telecommunication system security sector employees. ."

It is reported that this textile material will be further developed for use in ** products to protect military personnel from infrared camera tracking and electromagnetic radiation.
