The Macau Bureau of Statistics announced that the total retail sales for the whole year last year was 66.04 billion yuan (MOP, the same below), an increase of 23% over the same period last year. In the fourth quarter, sales volume increased by 13% quarter-to-quarter, adult clothing increased by 26%, cosmetics and hygiene products (24%) and footwear (24%) increased significantly; furniture and lighting supplies and motorcycles and spare parts fell 13 % and 8%. Compared with the same quarter last year, about 66% of the merchants indicated that the inventory in the fourth quarter of 2013 was normal, and 16% indicated that the inventory was low. Looking forward to the first quarter of 2014, about 19% of merchants expect sales of goods to increase compared with the fourth quarter, and 58% indicate that sales volume has remained stable and reduced by 23%. At the same time, 65% of merchants predict that sales prices will remain stable, up 27%, and forecast prices will fall by 8%.
